Rebellion Roads: From Guesswork to a Fully Trackable, Scalable Ad System

Here's the full story — what the problem actually was, what we did, and what the numbers looked like before and after.

Rebellion Roads · Charleston, SC

eBike Tour & Rental Business That Couldn't Tell Which Ads Were Booking Tours

A genuinely great experience product — scenic eBike tours and rentals along Folly Beach and the Charleston coastline — but the back-end marketing was flying blind. Ad spend was going out. Customers were booking. But the connection between the two was invisible.

The Situation

Rebellion Roads came to me with a problem that's more common than it sounds: their Google Ads account had been running for months, they were seeing traffic and some conversions in the dashboard, but they couldn't tell you with any confidence which campaigns were actually filling their booking calendar versus which ones were generating clicks that went nowhere.

The booking flow on their website was also misaligned with the ad messaging — visitors would land on a generic page rather than a tour-specific one, creating unnecessary friction right before a purchase.

The result was an ad account that was technically "working" but almost certainly spending far more than it needed to for each actual booking.

What We Did

  • Full audit of the Google Ads account — campaign structure, keywords, match types, bid strategies, and landing page alignment
  • Rebuilt conversion tracking from scratch — separate tracking for booking completions vs. general page interactions that were inflating the conversion count
  • Created tour-specific landing pages aligned to each campaign so traffic landed in the right place
  • Restructured campaigns around booking intent keywords ("eBike tour Charleston," "Folly Beach bike rental") rather than broad discovery terms
  • Added negative keyword lists to eliminate unqualified traffic eating through budget
  • Set up a revenue-linked reporting dashboard showing real cost per booked tour

The Outcome

Within 60 days of restructuring the account and fixing tracking, cost per actual booking dropped by 28%. Bookings from paid ads increased by 41% — not because we spent more, but because the same budget was finally going to the right campaigns.

Return on ad spend reached 3.2× — meaning for every dollar spent on ads, $3.20 came back in booking revenue. That's a number they can now build on with confidence, because the tracking underneath it is solid.

Perhaps just as importantly: the owner now has a clear dashboard. They know exactly which campaigns are driving bookings, what each one costs per conversion, and where to put more money when the season ramps up.

Before working with Rafeeq, we had a rough sense that our ads were working because bookings were coming in. But we genuinely couldn't tell you which campaigns deserved the credit. Now we can. The reporting is clear, the cost per booking makes sense, and we know exactly where to put more budget when we want to scale up for the season.

Deep Dive — Case Study 02

Folly Beach Adventures: Building a Direct Booking Engine That Cut Out the Middleman

A seasonal business with great customer satisfaction scores but a revenue model that was slowly being eaten by third-party platform fees.

Folly Beach Adventures · Folly Beach, SC

Outdoor Adventure Business That Was Paying Platform Fees on Bookings It Should Have Owned

Folly Beach Adventures offered a range of seasonal beach rentals and outdoor experiences on Folly Beach, South Carolina. They had repeat customers, strong word-of-mouth, and a growing social following — but a disproportionate number of their bookings were coming through third-party platforms that took a meaningful commission cut on every sale.

58%

More direct bookings

2.8×

Organic traffic growth

34%

More revenue per visit

The Situation

The core problem wasn't demand — Folly Beach is a popular destination and there was genuine interest in what Folly Beach Adventures offered. The problem was that too much of that demand was being captured by third-party platforms first, meaning Folly Beach Adventures was effectively paying a middleman for customers who might have found them directly.

Their own website was underperforming in organic search, the booking flow was cumbersome on mobile, and there was no content strategy designed to bring in intent-driven visitors looking specifically for beach activity rentals.

What We Did

  • Full SEO audit focused on local and activity-specific keyword opportunities (beach rentals, kayak rentals Folly Beach, paddleboard rental Charleston, etc.)
  • Rewrote all core service pages with buyer-intent copy and proper heading structure
  • Optimized Google Business Profile with updated categories, services, photos, and a review acquisition process
  • Rebuilt the mobile booking flow to reduce steps and eliminate friction points before checkout
  • Created a content cluster around "things to do on Folly Beach" to capture top-of-funnel visitors and redirect them toward bookings
  • Set up proper GA4 tracking to measure direct vs. referral bookings and revenue per channel

The Outcome

Over the following two seasons, direct bookings through their own website increased by 58%. Organic search traffic grew 2.8× — driven largely by the local SEO improvements and the content cluster, which now ranks for dozens of activity-related search terms in the Folly Beach area.

More importantly, the revenue per website visit increased by 34% once the mobile booking flow was rebuilt — meaning not just more visitors, but more of those visitors completing a booking.

Third-party platform dependency dropped significantly, and the margin improvement from direct bookings compounded the revenue impact beyond what the raw traffic numbers show.

We always knew we were leaving money on the table by relying so heavily on the booking platforms. We just didn't know exactly how to fix it. Rafeeq figured that out fast — the SEO work and the booking flow rebuild together made a real difference. Two seasons in and it's night and day compared to where we were.
